MUSIC AND DRAMATICS
A Girls' Glee Club was organized at the beginning of the school year, with Miss Peekema as director. Approximately thirty girls signed up for glee club, to be held two periods a week, for which two credits per year will be given. During the year we have sung several classic two-part songs; among the songs we have learned are: Nightingale and Rose, Flow'ret (Forget-Me-Not), Voices of the Woods, Morn Rise, Angels Serenade, Lovely Night (Barcarolle) and many others. We have sung at all school entertainments, such as Thanksgiving, Christmas and the Student Body Play, and Commencement; also at several community functions, such as the Sunday-school bazaar, parent-teacher meetings and lectures. We have had no songs for different voices in glee club.
During the first half of the year a Boys' Glee Club was organized, with Mr. Kirsten as director. The glee club was abandoned at the beginning of this year, and that time is now being taken up by the orchestra. This orchestra has improved very much and will give a selection or two at commencement.
Several plays have been given this year by the different classes and one has been given by the student body.
On December 3, 1924, the Sophomores put on the first play of the year, a four-act play entitled "Her Decision." Miss Peekema coached the play. A very large crowd attended the play and every one was pleased with the abilities and acting of the characters. The characters were:
Harold Rutledge, a young New Yorker Joe Rankin
Perry Deane, a son of the soil Joe Enos
David Hildreth, a New York lawyer Arvid Pederson
Silas Holcomb, owner of Valley Farm Kenneth Wells
Azariah Keep, a clock tinker Thornton Pylman
Jennings, servant at the Rutledge Mansion Thomas Burke
